Hacklet

No comments yet

The famous swedish river Mörrum is known world-wide for its massive salmon and sea run brown trouts in the most beautiful surroundings. One of the many flyfishers who fell in love with the wonderful river that flows through the swedish forrests, is the danish flytyer and flyfisher Steen Petersen. He like to think “out-of-the-box” and have had great success with fishing untraditional patterns when the salmon and sea trouts are beeing tricky and difficult to fool - especially when the autumn arrives. This fly produced a well fed 89 cm seatrout for Steen a couple of years ago. Steen says about one of his ‘secret weapons’ the Petersen’s Hacklet.
“I tie my small, single-hook fall-flies in different colours – some of them very dark with black rubber legs. And when it’s cloudy, I particularly like flies with copper features. I fish them actively, either stripping in line or using the tip of the rod to create extra movement. If possible, I try to make the fly sink slowly towards the salmon, for instance by mending the line upstream, dropping the tip of the fly rod or, even, feeding out a bit of line. The fish often find this difficult to resist. The Petersen’s Hacklet is one of those small single flies - is quite simple yet very effective for autumn fishing”.
In this video we have put local flyfisher and owner of Fiskeshopen Stefan enevoldsen behind the vise to demonstrate the tying of Petersen’s Hacklet.

Since you got this far …

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
